It has been long time knowledge that you should brush twice a day and floss once a day. Flossing is important to remove plaque and bacteria from the teeth and gums that can lead to bigger problems if left there long term. These problems include tartar build up, gum disease, tooth decay, and even heart disease.
While research shows that there is little difference in the results some people prefer using a water flosser to normal flossing. It is entirely up to the flosser to decided which flossing method works the best for them, but water piking may be a simple solution for those that have trouble reaching certain spots or who simply do not enjoy traditional flossing.
Water flossing can remove food and bacteria from those hard to reach places that do not get cleaned up by the toothbrush. They help remove these particles to keep the gums healthy and strong, reducing bleeding and the risk of gum disease.
While it can be messy if you are not prepared, water flossing is a rather quick and easy process. Fill the basin with warm water, place the tip in your mouth and close your mouth, turn the flosser on. Move the tip along the gumline tooth to tooth at a 90 degree angle to remove plaque, food, and bacteria.
